It just wouldn’t be a transfer window without Man United being linked with a move to sign Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, would it…?
With the transfer deadline edging closer, Manchester United Football Club are coming to the realisation that Frenkie de Jong will likely not be signed.
It explains why a move for Adrien Rabiot is suddenly in the works. On top of that, the Old Trafford club have eyes on another familiar name; Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.
It’s The Telegraph with the claim, who suggest that United are ‘considering’ a move to ‘finally sign’ the 27-year-old midfielder this summer.
Milinkovic-Savic is a player that is annually linked with a Red Devils move. Though as of yet, the Serbia international hasn’t departed from Serie A club Lazio.
There is a feeling that intermediaries believe a deal can actually be done this time around, despite the fact that United have been rumoured with a move to sign Milinkovic-Savic for what feels like an absolute age. However, Lazio do not want to sell, though they’re aware of United’s renewed interest.
It’s expected that due to Milinkovic-Savic’s winding down contract, around £50million should be enough to tempt Lazio into parting with one of their prized assets.
Again, this just feels like United scraping the barrel to try and lure at least one midfielder to the club. Erik ten Hag will have watched the likes of Scott McTominay and Fred absolutely stinking up the joint against Brighton & Hove Albion, realising that this midfield needs a complete overhaul if we’re to win games with regularity in 2022/23.
Is Milinkovic-Savic the answer? Honestly, I have no idea. There’s a reason why clubs continue to pass up on the opportunity to sign him. Though saying that, I reckon the Serbian would walk straight into our midfield from day one if he does make the move.
