Man United are still looking at possibly making their move to bring in FC Barcelona right-back, Sergino Dest.
It’s common knowledge that Erik ten Hag doesn’t really fancy Aaron Wan-Bissaka for his high-pressing system at Manchester United. The right-back is available for transfer, though there have been no willing buyers to this point.
Diogo Dalot is the first-choice option right now, however, the Portugal international just doesn’t look good enough. With that in mind, links with right-backs have been plentiful. Sergino Dest is one of the options mentioned by the media recently.
Well, TalkSPORT have now weighed in on the Dest situation. They state that United are ‘considering a move’ to sign the 21-year-old player, who has worked with Ten Hag previously during their time together at Ajax.
Dest, a current FC Barcelona player and USA international, was born in the Netherlands and came through the famous Ajax academy.
After breaking into the first-team in the 2019/20 season under Ten Hag, Dest switched to Catalonia in October 2020, making 72 appearances for the La Liga giants to date.
In terms of transfer fee, around £17million should get the deal done as that’s what Barca value Dest at.
Whether or not he’s an upgrade on Dalot ability-wise remains to be seen. However, Dest feels like a better fit for this system, while he’s a far more well-rounded player.
Dalot’s biggest selling point is his attacking quality. However, he has been pretty bad in the final third during the first couple of Premier League matches. The Portugal international didn’t really look up to standard during pre-season, either.
In our opinion, any move for Dest is totally reliant on whether Wan-Bissaka can be moved on in some capacity this summer. Ideally, the Englishman will be sold permanently, though you get the feeling a loan move away looks far more likely at this point.
