Man United considering move to sign exceptional 23-year-old midfielder: report

Although Manchester United Football Club have already added Nemanja Matic to the midfield ranks, Jose Mourinho may move for another central player yet. That’s what Marca write, translated by The Sun, who says that FC Barcelona’s Andre Gomes is being weighed up for a potential move.

The self-proclaimed Special One is keen to bolster his squad, and could make a move for his fellow countryman before the transfer window shuts. New Barca boss Ernesto Valverde believes the Catalan side have too many midfielders, and they could well part with the 23-year-old this summer.

Gomes has only been at the Camp Nou for one season, and Barcelona could be willing to sell him to raise funds so they can strengthen elsewhere. It’s fair to say that the Portuguese midfielder hasn’t had the best time of things thus far – as he has even been booed by his own fans on occasion.

Mourinho is apparently monitoring the situation, and could move if he sees fit.

I like Gomes and I think he’d be a wonderful addition. He’d bring some more youth to the middle of the park, and he could well be the long-term successor to Michael Carrick. On top of that, if it means less minutes for Marouane Fellaini, I’d be happy.
