Man United considering reviving interest in 26-year-old centre-half: report

Fifty-two. That’s how may goals Manchester United Football Club have conceded this season. Perhaps Jose Mourinho was well within his rights to demand a new centre-back signing last summer…

Obviously, hindsight is a wonderful thing. Fastforward to this coming summer and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a mammoth task on his hands. Hopefully, he’ll be granted the ‘luxury’ that his predecessor wasn’t…

No doubt the Red Devils will be linked with names aplenty, but the Evening Standard are claiming United are interested in a familiar face; that of Harry Maguire.

Apparently, the Old Trafford outfit are ‘considering reviving their interest’ in the 26-year-old who was truly outstanding for England at the World Cup just under twelve months ago.

The 26-year-old has enjoyed a pretty good season with Leicester, with United monitoring him throughout. Initially, the Reds deemed Maguire too expensive, but they’ve reportedly been taking note of the impact that Virgil van Dijk has had at Liverpool and clearly they’re hoping Maguire will do similar.

On that subject, Maguire is a few levels below Liverpool’s Dutchman, but he’d be a considerable upgrade on what Solskjaer currently has at his disposal.

United need to hit the reset button. It all starts by sorting out the players who actually want to wear the Red Devil on their chest with pride. If Maguire wants to do that then I’d welcome him in with open arms, because with better players around him, the one they call ‘Slabhead’ is only going to improve.
