Man United ‘considering rivalling’ Arsenal for Declan Rice signing

Man United are looking to fight Arsenal for the signature of Declan Rice.

Manchester United are yet to make a signing this summer, though the links to players have been plentiful. One area Erik ten Hag is looking to upgrade is midfield.

Several names in that position have been rumoured with an Old Trafford switch, including Declan Rice.

The overriding thought is that Arsenal have always been ahead in the race to sign the England international, though apparently, United aren’t quite ready to give up their chase.

It’s The Telegraph with the latest information. They reckon that United are now ‘considering rivalling’ Arsenal for the signing of the top-class 24-year-old.

The deal the Reds are contemplating is a player-plus-cash offer, involving either Scott McTominay or Harry Maguire. The former is a player that West Ham have shown an interest in previously and they’d be keen on opening talks with the Red Devils, with McTominay potentially being used in a deal.

Any use of Maguire could be prohibited by his wage demands, as West Ham wouldn’t want to meet his expectations in terms of weekly earnings.

It remains to be seen what sort of value West Ham will place on Mctominay, though from my point of view, anything less than £20-25m for the Scotland international would be deemed a failure.

The Telegraph does add that Arsenal remain the most likely destination for Rice, though it’s encouraging to see that United aren’t giving up the chase without a fight.

Players like Rice are not available every summer, which is why United are seemingly doing all they can to make a move happen.

At the end of the day, the chase may end up being unsuccessful, but you’ve got to at least test the waters and gauge whether Rice would be keen on an Old Trafford move.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Declan Rice would make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
