Manchester United are considering a summer move for Chelsea’s Willian, after failing with a move to sign the 29-year-old in January.
That’s what the Daily Mail says anyway, per talkSPORT. Apparently, the right-winger has been a Red Devils target ever since Jose Mourinho took charge at Old Trafford, and based on Sunday’s display, you can see why.
Willian was by far and away Chelsea’s most productive player during United’s 2-1 victory over Antonio Conte’s men, and he took his goal with aplomb, after starting the move himself with an excellent pass and run.
The Red Devils have an embarrassment of riches at their disposal in the final third, but no single player has been able to nail down the right-wing spot in the team. Many have tried, but all have failed so far, including top players like Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
I guess the difference is the fact that the right-hand side is where Willian is used to playing, whereas the majority of United’s current attacking options feel far more comfortable over on the left.
Another issue that United would have to solve is convincing Chelsea into parting with a key player. After we poached Nemanja Matic from them last summer, I genuinely don’t see them being willing to let another top class star follow suit.
