Manchester United’s interest in signing a new right-back this summer is well documented. The name that pops up most as a potential option is that of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Well last night a new name was thrown into the mix. It comes from the usually reliable Gianluca di Marzio, who states that United have ‘made contact’ with Napoli over Elseid Hysaj.
Apparently, the Reds want a full-back who can play on both sides, with the 25-year-old’s versatility seemingly what is attracting the Old Trafford club to the Albanian.
According to di Marzio, Hysaj has already made clear his intentions to leave Naples during this window – with United seemingly looking at Wan-Bissaka alternatives…
I’m actually surprised it has taken this long for us to be linked with a move for Hysaj. He’s already a miles better left and right-back than what we have at the moment, although you do feel that if he was signed, the 25-year-old would predominantly be used over on the right.
The Old Trafford club won’t have it all their own way, though, with Sky’s Kaveh Solhekol claiming that Atletico Madrid are also interested.
Hysaj is quick, pretty good off either foot, positionally sound and a willing runner. You’d imagine he’d be significantly cheaper than Wan-Bissaka while also having more experience than the Crystal Palace man. United could certainly do worse…
