Man United contact Timo Werner’s agent, Chelsea keen too: report

Manchester United Football Club played an absolute blinder when they acquired Odion Ighalo on a short-term loan deal. However, whether he’s the long-term answer remains to be seen.

As a player, the Nigerian has worked wonders, though, in terms of age, it’s realistic to think he’s on the decline.

It’s no surprise, then, to learn that United are still scouring the market for potential forward-options. The latest name to be linked with an Old Trafford move is Timo Werner.

The story comes from Sport Bild’s Christian Falk, who tweeted that United have ‘already contacted’ the agent of the prolific 27-goal striker, who turned 24 just a couple of months ag.

Werner has been brilliant for RB Leipzig over the last few seasons with his stock across the footballing world continuing to rise. However, the Reds aren’t the only interested party with Chelsea already making contact, too. The player is said to be ‘waiting’ for an offer from Liverpool.

With three years left on his contract and a £57m market value (Transfermarkt), it’s realistic to believe Leipzig will get a pretty sizeable fee for the German whenever he eventually moves on.

I get the feeling that Liverpool is Werner’s ideal destination, though United have to be ready, waiting in the wings, to take advantage of a scenario in which Jurgen Klopp’s side don’t make their move.

Werner fits in with the young, ambitious player-profile that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has shown a tendency towards, while looking at the available striker options, there’s not an awful lot of quality-in-depth outside of the German…
