Man United continue to be linked with a move to sign Crystal Palace centre-back, Marc Guehi. Though they’ll face competition.

Manchester United have been borderline atrocious defensively to start this season. Erik ten Hag has not been helped by injuries galore across the back line, though you still expect better when you’re the biggest club in the country.

Yesterday’s decision to leave World Cup and Champions League winner, Raphael Varane, on the bench in favour of Jonny Evans was an interesting decision. It’s no surprise, then, to hear United consistently linked with a move to sign a new centre-back. Among the names the club are looking at is Marc Guehi.

The Crystal Palace man has been linked with United a few times over the last month and over the weekend, Goal continued that trend. The centre-back, who is having himself a stellar year, is attracting interest from some of the Premier League’s top sides.

United continue to be linked with a move to sign the 23-year-old defender, though they will not have it all their own way, with rivals Arsenal and Manchester City also keen. Palace are no doubt hoping a bidding war could be sparked, which could raise the eventual price for the English centre-half.

No price tag has been confirmed, though Guehi would cost more than the £50m record fee paid to sign Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Guehi’s current contract runs until 2026, meaning the ball is firmly in Crystal Palace’s court.

This strikes me as a summer deal rather than a January window move. Palace will not want to lose a key asset mid-season, while it probably suits United, too, as they likely wouldn’t have the cash readily available when January rolls around.

For Guehi, there could be a huge opportunity just around the corner. He just has to focus solely on his football and continue developing as a player.

Do you think a Man United move to sign Marc Guehi would make sense next summer? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
