Man United are still pushing for the signing of Manuel Ugarte, though the transfer is not straightforward.
Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro are signed and sealed. Now, attention turns to addressing the midfield issues. Casemiro struggled at times last term. Christian Eriksen is getting older. Scott McTominay may be deemed surplus to requirements.
The name most linked with coming in and bolstering the middle of the pitch is Manuel Ugarte. The PSG man could depart the French capital this summer, potentially leaving room for the Ligue 1 side to sign Joao Neves.
Florian Plettenberg has had his finger on the pulse in regard to a potential United move for Ugarte over the last couple of weeks. Now, he has taken to X to provide another update.
According to his information, United are ‘continuing the negotiations’ for the potential signing.
However, it’s not all plain sailing. Plettenberg states that it is ‘not an easy deal’ to complete, despite the fact that PSG want to sell Ugarte. They prefer a straight sale over a loan, though their £59m asking price could prove to be a stumbling block. The clubs will remain in talks, however, there is no problem on Ugarte’s side as personal terms are not an issue at all.

🚨🔴 Manchester United are continuing the negotiations regarding Manuel #Ugarte! #MUFC are pushing for him but it’s not an easy deal. Understand that Paris want to sell Ugarte. A straight loan is not an option. If at all, with an obligation to buy. #PSG demand €70m at this… pic.twitter.com/yqMcT0Gpj0

Ugarte would be an excellent piece of business if United could pull it off. However, I do wonder whether the Reds may have to raise some more funds via player sales first.
That said, I do not see United paying what PSG want. Rather, the Old Trafford side will likely be looking to negotiate that fee down considerably.
We supporters may have to stay patient and United may have to play the long game with this one.
