Man United contract FC Barcelona about Coutinho: report

Manchester United have been linked with a new name almost daily during this transfer window, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks to overhaul a struggling squad.

The latest name to be linked with an Old Trafford move is FC Barcelona’s Philippe Coutinho. It comes from the usually reliable Tancredi Palmeri, who says that United are amongst a few teams who have ‘contacted’ the Catalonian giants about the 27-year-old’s availability.

Solskjaer won’t have it all his own way though, in fact, he’ll face stiff competition to sign the Brazil international, as Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain have also approached Barcelona in regards to the ex-Liverpool man.

It does seem as though at this stage United are just putting out the feelers and checking on the availability of several players as the club look to get a rough idea of how much some players are going to cost.

Coutinho’s Liverpool links make this one a whole lot harder- on both sides of the M62.

With that said, United would be getting a stunning player if they could pull this move off, although you do have a few doubts about Coutinho as his form hasn’t been the greatest over the last year or so.

If United want to sign a creative playmaker, I’d much prefer to see the club go for someone like James Maddison. Not only is the Englishman considerably younger, he’s also a boyhood Red Devils fan and it would be nice to fill the dressing room with players who actually care about the badge on their chest.
