Manchester United could announce their first summer signing within the next few hours. The player set to become a Red Devil? Diogo Dalot.
That’s according to Portuguese media outlet O Jogo. They add that a £17.4million release clause has been activated, with Dalot’s agent constantly rejecting new contract talks with Porto – presumably because they knew a deal was in place.
This move has come from absolutely nowhere, and it backs up claims from last night, suggesting that a deal could be done this week.
Dalot is a full-back, who has played the majority of his football for Porto B, however, after an injury, he did manage to play a handful of games for the first-team; performing brilliantly when given the opportunity.
Let’s be honest, Antonio Valencia didn’t have the best of seasons, and he’s now approaching the latter stages of his career. The man from Ecuador needs competition. Perhaps that’ll drive him on to put in better displays, if not, at least we have a player ready in line to try and take over.
Personally, I would prefer it if that player was Timothy Fosu-Mensah. He was excellent for Crystal Palace this season and he’s Premier League proven, but we’ll have to see Jose Mourinho’s plans for the young Dutchman.
