Man United could make a move to sign Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting this January.
It makes sense for Manchester United to trim down their squad this month, purely due to the fact that the Red Devils are out of Europe and there are fewer games to play.
Seveal players have left on loan, with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Donny van de Beek headlining that queue.
Incoming signings always felt unlikely, though perhaps we shouldn’t give up hope just yet.
Fabrizio Romano, per GiveMeSport, believes Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting could still be on the radar.
It’s that United ‘could consider’ a move to sign the veteran striker this month, with the Bayern Munich man a ‘candidate’ to help out Rasmus Hojlund in the final third.
On top of that, it’s reiterated that the player himself is ‘open’ to an Old Trafford switch this month, as he searches for regular game time. Ever since the arrival of Harry Kane at Bayern Munich, the striker has found it tough for minutes.
Choupo-Moting would bring some veteran presence to an extremely young Manchester United front line. He’d definitely help out Hojlund, both in terms of goal output and also future learning.
You’d like to think that this would be a relatively cheap deal for the Old Trafford club, making it a no-brainer in our opinion.
I know Wout Weghorst was not everyone’s cup of tea last term, though I actually thought he did a pretty solid job on the whole. Choupo-Moting could have a similar impact, providing some meaningful minutes at this crucial stage of the season.
It’s all down to Anthony Martial. If he’s dead-set on staying and fighting for his place, I’d be surprised if Choupo-Moting is signed. However, if the Frenchman leaves, Ten Hag has no choice but to bring in someone.
