Man United could give youngster full debut vs Cardiff due to injuries: report

Manchester United’s season draws to a close this coming Sunday when the Red Devils host Cardiff City at Old Trafford.

The game itself has nothing on the line but pride. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping to see fight, spirit and a positive attitude as the Baby Faced Assassin looks for something he can build upon going into the 2019/20 campaign.

Old Trafford may be treated to a full Mason Greenwood United debut, which could certainly bring some happiness amongst the terraces. That’s according to The Sun, who say that the 17-year-old could be in line to start due to Romelu Lukaku’s fitness being uncertain.

The Belgian is struggling with a hamstring problem which could pave the way for Solskjaer to give Greenwood the nod, and although the youngster missed United’s trip to Huddersfield with injury, the manager did confirm he wanted to play him before the season ends…

After a PL2 season in which Greenwood has scored 30 goals coupled with the abysmal, toothless displays put in by United’s forwards this year, surely this is a no-brainer. If the 17-year-old is fit and ready to go then Solskjaer literally has nothing to lose.

It’s why I was happy to see Tahith Chong involved against Huddersfield. Although he may not yet be at the desired level, there’s a hunger, a willingness to win and a drive to impress. That attitude has been lacking at this club recently and Greenwood could well inject that into the dressing room which can only be a good thing.

Hopefully, Greenwood is fit enough to be involved. It’ll no doubt lift the spirits amongst the fans and give them something to look forward to over what is going to be a long summer…
