Manchester United could hand talented teenager Mason Greenwood his first start of the season vs Arsenal, according to the Evening Standard.
Apparently, the 17-year-old is ‘pressing’ for a place in the starting line-up, after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer demanded his United side end their ‘woeful’ run in front of goal.
Greenwood has made two starts in cup competitions. In those games, the forward has scored two goals – and it does finally seem as United fans could be about to get their wish in regards to their latest starlet.
After an excellent tour and an encouraging start within the first-team fold, a mini injury crisis could have opened up the door for Greenwood to get his first big league chance against Arsenal. He should look at Marcus Rashford for inspiration, who scored his first two league goals against The Gunners a few years ago.
Sure, Greenwood is nowhere near the finished product. He’s going to need time to adapt and adjust, but with Rashford now injured and the squad extremely thin on the ground, this is his big opportunity.
Now it’ll be interesting to see whether he can take that chance. It’s against a good team, but Old Trafford will be rocking and the crowd will be behind him. An early goal would be absolutely superb for his confidence, and this could be the start of a long and fruitful United career for a talented young man.
