Man United could get a double injury boost ahead of the game vs Nottingham Forest.

Manchester United Football Club saw their season hopes dented on Thursday, with injuries seriously depleting the playing squad. Lisandro Martinez’s issue looked the most serious, with the Argentine going down with nobody around him, before being unable to walk off the field.

Next up is a game against Nottingham Forest, as this gruelling fixture pile-up due to the World Cup. We’ve said it earlier, but these are the games that United have to win by any means necessary if they’re serious about finishing inside the top four.

Well, ahead of that game, United could get a double injury boost according to the gaffer, Erik ten Hag. Two players could return to the squad, with two more training sessions left to assess both Scott McTominay and Luke Shaw.

McTominay and Shaw are recent injury casualties, though thankfully, neither problem seems that serious.

Check out what the gaffer had to say in full here:

“Are any players available that were missing? For Sunday, yeah, [they] could be. But we have to see,” explained Ten Hag told the media, including ManUtd.com.

“We have now two sessions to go of training, so I don’t know by now. But it can be that Scott and Luke return in the squad, but [we are] not sure.”

If the Reds get both of these guys back this weekend, it just gives Ten Hag more options in a couple of key areas.

Shaw, in particular, is a big need. The fact that he could play centre-back is a huge plus, with the Englishman not looking out of place in that position earlier on in the season.

Then you have McTominay, who has been on fire since the World Cup break. United’s squad looks better with him in it, with Ten Hag looking to utilise the Scotland international while he’s high on confidence.

At the very least, we now know this duo are set to return shortly – be it this weekend or not, Ten Hag will have them back sooner rather than later.
