Man United could make their move to sign young Ajax striker, Brian Brobbey.
Even before Cristiano Ronaldo’s future at Manchester United was thrown up in the air, the Old Trafford club needed some offensive reinforcements.
Aside from our number seven, United are lacking genuine consistency in that area of the field. Who knows what we’re going to get out of both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford?
In a situation where Ronaldo stays, perhaps the way to go would be to bring in a young forward who can learn from, and eventually replace United’s star striker. Enter, Brian Brobbey.
The young Dutchman spent last season on loan at Ajax from RB Leipzig, growing a relationship with Ten Hag in the process.
Now, it’s being reported by The Times that Ten Hag has been in contact with Brobbey recently. They also state that United ‘could hijack’ a deal to sign the striker who scored seven goals in thirteen Ajax appearances last season, as the Dutch club look to make Brobbey a permanent signing.
Brobbey joined RB Leipzig on a free transfer in 2021, before being loaned straight back to Ajax. Now, the Dutchman has no future with the German club and a permanent move back to Ajax was on the cards – until United and Ten Hag decided to step in.
This feels like the sort of signing United should make in the event that Ronaldo stays, though I’m not sure Brobbey is ready to be the number one striker at Old Trafford, if Ronaldo does go…
Either way, it’s another case of Ten Hag trying to surround himself with players he’s familiar with as he looks to rebuild this United squad from the ground up.
