Ah, it has been a while, but this morning we saw a familiar name has been once again linked with Manchester United…

Bruno Fernandes, a Portuguese midfielder, was constantly linked with an Old Trafford switch over the summer. Things all went quiet in that regard, but now the story has returned…

It comes from Portuguese media outlet O Jogo, translated by the Daily Mail. They say that United could land the 25-year-old in January as Sporting Lisbon look to clear their debt.

Apparently, Sporting are currently £57million in the red, while Fernandes would cost £65million if the Red Devils were to sign the prolific attacking midfielder during the mid-season window.

Fernandes was red-hot during the 2018/19 term and he’s started this campaign in a similar vein. There’s no doubt that the man from Portugal is ready to step it up in terms of quality, while there remains a glaring need for United to bring in an attacking midfielder.

The #10 role at Old Trafford has been bereft of quality for a few years now, and although signing Fernandes would be a risk for the Old Trafford outfit, it does seem as though it’d be a gamble that’s worth taking.

You do have to tread carefully in the January transfer window, though, as it’s a notoriously tricky time to buy for various reasons…
