Man United could let Bailly go out on loan with option to buy: report

Manchester United have been constantly linked with a move for Harry Maguire this summer, although nothing has come to fruition as of yet.

Well, now we may know why… Perhaps Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been told he has to thin his defensive options before bringing in another body, which would make sense.

In yesterday’s Tuttosport (Wednesday print), translated by Sport Witness, it is being claimed that a potential Eric Bailly loan move to AC Milan with an option to buy is ‘conceivable’ – although United manager Solskjaer doesn’t want to lose the 25-year-old despite a lack of playing time.

In the article above, Bailly is just one of several names mentioned so a deal isn’t close to happening any time soon, but Milan seemingly view the Ivorian as a potential option as they look to bolster their defence.

I feel sorry for Bailly as injuries have seriously hampered his growth as a footballer. During his debut season at Old Trafford, the centre-half was absolutely sublime throughout.

Since then, though, he has struggled to keep himself fit and his career has taken a backward step. All that Bailly needs is one, injury-free season to get himself back on track. I just have serious doubts about whether he can do that.

For me, I’d give him one more year to prove his worth and if it doesn’t work this season then I’d look to move him on next summer. At the end of the day, we’ve given ample opportunity to the likes of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling so Bailly deserves one more crack at the whip, right?
