Man United could look to hijack Chelsea’s move to sign Aaron Anselmino

Man United could make their move to sign Boca Juniors defender, Aaron Anselmino.

A defender appears to be the top priority for Manchester United as things stand. The Red Devils absolutely have to sign a centre-back to replace Raphael Varane, while Jonny Evans’ future is also far from certain.

Jarrad Branthwaite is the number one option for the Old Trafford club, though the Englishman could prove to be too expensive. With money thought to be tight for the Reds, Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Erik ten Hag could look to other, cheaper, alternatives.

It’s TYC Sports who throw another name into the mix; Aaron Anselmino.

The young centre-back currently plies his trade for Argentinian club, Boca Juniors.

Anselmino has been linked with United in the past, though all did go quiet on that front. However, the Argentine is seemingly still an option.

TYC Sports believe that there is a ‘concrete chance’ United will make a proposal to sign the teenage defender this summer.

As things stand, Chelsea are leading the chase to sign Anselmino, having made a £15m offer to acquire the 18-year-old. United are now set to compete with the Stamford Bridge club to sign the young man.

The story claims that United have been following the ‘little jewel’ of Boca for quite some time now, with the Argentine said waiting for an offer to arrive – presumably so that a bidding war begins for his signature.

Boca want closer to £20m to allow Anselmino to leave, which is £5m more than the current Chelsea offer that is on the table. Obviously, this is far cheaper than the £70m+ that Everton are demanding for Jarrad Branthwaite.

There is significantly more risk involved in any move for Anselmino, purely down to the act that he is still so young and learning his trade. There is no guarantee he will succeed in the Premier League, particularly as United have a very hit and miss record when it comes to signing South Americans.
