Man United are in the market for a new centre-half this summer, with Samuel Umtiti now being touted as a possible target.

It can be argued a centre-back is the only thing stopping Manchester United from competing on all fronts. Go out there and find the right player and Solskjaer’s team has the potential to be a real force in 2021/22.
Yesterday, the Daily Star threw a new name into the mix; Samuel Umtiti. The Frenchman has been linked with an Old Trafford move in transfer windows gone by and here we are again.
It’s claimed that United could make a move for the 27-year-old defender this summer, with Arsenal also credited with transfer interest in Umtiti.
Apparently, Barcelona are ‘desperate’ to sell Umtiti, with their financial situation in a real mess right now. Things are so bad that as of right now, they cannot register new signings like Sergio Aguero due to exceeding La Liga’s salary limit. It’s thought that parting ways with Umtiti will help them out in that situation.
As of right now, Umtiti is refusing to rescind his contract, meaning Barca will look to either sell him, or loan him out this summer, in order to save themselves around £17m-per-season.
Both United and Arsenal could be ‘tempted’ to make an offer and you’d like to think if it was a straight race between these two sides, the Reds would have more than enough firepower to win that battle with the Gunners.
The question is, would Umtiti be a good fit? I don’t think you can doubt his talent and ability. However, his fitness is a major concern. If the price is right then this one could be worth a gamble. I wouldn’t have much faith in the Frenchman staying healthy for a full season though.
