Man United have added Andrea Belotti to their list of possible transfer targets.
Edinson Cavani may well be on his way out of Old Trafford this summer. It’s pretty sad really, considering he’s yet to play in front of the Theatre of Dreams crowd who adore him so much.
As they say, the show must go on. For Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, it’s about finding the ideal replacement. It seems like Andrea Belotti is the new name being thrown into the ring.
The story comes from Tuttosport in Italy, who state that United could make their move for the in-demand 27-year-old this summer – though they’ll face stiff competition.
Liverpool are also said to be keen on Belotti, who has twelve goals across all competitions this term for Torino.
The report claims that Torino are already weighing up moves for a potential replacement for Belotti, so you do get the impression that the Italian forward could well be on his way out this summer.
A few years ago, Belotti was being talked up as the next big striker sensation, and although he’s remained pretty consistent, hitting between 15-30 goals season-in-season-out, perhaps he hasn’t developed as many would have hoped.
In terms of fit, Belotti is someone who could lead the line similar to how Cavani does, though it’s fair to say he doesn’t provide as much quality and energy as the Uruguayan.
Don’t get me wrong, I like Belotti, but this move would be a gamble. Right now, I’d say you’re probably not likely to win a league title with him as your main striker – hence why a move for Erling Haaland or Harry Kane would be preferable. You have to understand they’d both cost an awful lot more, too…
