Man United could make an official move for Christopher Nkunku next week.
There’s no doubt that Manchester United’s squad will look rather different in a few months time.
Erik ten Hag won’t get to work with several United regulars from years gone by, like Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard. Those guys will need replacing, regardless of our opinion on them as players.
A name that has been consistently linked with a Reds switch is Christopher Nkunku. We’ve actually already covered some claims on the RB Leipzig man this morning.
Well, the France international is back in the headlines again. This time it’s journalist Florian Plettenberg with a claim. He took to Twitter to share the latest information he’s receiving.
Plettenberg claims that United could make an ‘official offer’ for the 24-year-old ‘next week’, while adding there is ‘good contact’ between the Reds and the player’s management.
On top of that, United ‘bosses’ rate Nkunku as ‘very good’, following Ralf Rangnick’s transfer recommendation. However, as things stand, Leipzig isn’t planning on parting with the player this summer.
Nkunku has scored a huge 35 goals across all competitions this season. You’d imagine that number would only increase if the attacker joined a club where he’d have even more quality around him.
On the back of this brilliant season, Nkunku’s price-tag may never be higher, hence why I do believe Leipzig could be tempted to cash in if the right offer comes their way. In that regard, I’d expect it’d cost somewhere around £70m+ to get any deal done. Obviously, that’s a large chunk of any clubs’ transfer budget…
With United looking so thin on the ground in the final third, I like Nkunku’s versatility. He could play as the striker or on the wing, giving Ten Hag plenty of options.
Whether or not Nkunku would be comfortable moving to a club without Champions League football on the table remains to be seen. That could definitely make things far harder for us this summer.
