Man United could make their move to sign Milan Skriniar as early as January.
It goes without saying that last season, Manchester United’s defence was nothing but a travesty. Erik ten Hag’s first intention was to fix that by bringing in at least one new centre-half.
Lisandro Martinez has arrived. The Argentine is playing well. However, the boss seemingly isn’t done in regards to investing in that area of the pitch.
It’s InterLive.it with the claim, with thanks to Sport Witness for the translation. They link the Red Devils with a move to bring in Milan Skriniar.
The Slovakia international has been linked with a Red Devils switch in the past, which is fair, given his unbelievable talent.
Anyway, this time around, it’s stated that the Reds could make a ‘desperate attempt’ to secure a deal to bring in Skriniar, with InterLive believing that United could make a move for the 27-year-old ‘as early as January’.
Why is this deal even possible, you ask?
Well, Skriniar’s contract is winding down. His current deal with Inter Milan expires in the summer of 2023. The Serie A club have to tie him down ASAP, or the Slovakian will be able to leave for free next summer. The other option is to sell him for cheaper than his typical market value in January.
United are seemingly looking to take advantage of that. They may even use Donny van de Beek as a makeweight in any potential deal to sign Skriniar.
OTF’s verdict
There’s no doubt that Skriniar would bring more depth to an area of the field that probably needs it. Harry Maguire isn’t good enough, while Victor Lindelof continues to blow hot and cold.
What this does confirm to all of us is that Ten Hag is thinking the same, otherwise, the club would not be looking to acquire a new defender at all.
Skriniar is an aggressive style of defender, so I’m not sure he’s the best fit to play alongside Martinez, for example. Make of that what you will.
