Man United could offer Daniel James new deal, before loaning out winger: report

Cast your mind back to last summer when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made his first signing as Manchester United manager. Daniel James was given the honour, in a £15million deal from Swansea City.

His impact on pre-season tour was felt, largely due to his desire and workrate. James’ opening day goal against Chelsea is definitely amongst my favourites memories this season, too.

After some brilliant football in the early-going, exhaustion, both mental and physical, began to set in. He needed a good rest and maybe the three-month period away from football may do him the world of good.

However, he’s clearly still in United’s long-term plans. The story comes from The Sun on Sunday, who state that the Reds could offer the talented 22-year-old a ‘bumper new deal – before loaning him out next season…

Now I know what you’re thinking. My initial thought was one of confusion, too. However, The Sun state United are still keen on Jadon Sancho. If he signs, he’ll have that right-wing slot on lockdown while Marcus Rashford is a mainstay over on the left.

However, I’d still keep James around. In terms of depth, United’s options out wide aren’t really producing outside of Mason Greenwood and the aforementioned Rashford. Plus, with Jesse Lingard’s future remaining up in the air, surely it makes sense to keep the Welshman around?

Plus I’m not really sure where he’d go. A lower-level Premier League side could possibly offer him regular starts on the left-wing, but with United in continental competition, he’ll definitely get plenty of opportunities here…
