Man United ‘could return’ for Denzel Dumfries this summer

Man United could make yet another attempt to sign Denzel Dumfries this summer.

There remains a real possibility that Manchester United will bring in a new right-back during this window. Aaron Wan-Bissaka continues to display inconsistency, while Erik ten Hag doesn’t seem to fully buy into what the Englishman has to offer.

Diogo Dalot has taken a step forward this season, there can be no doubt about that. That said, United continue to be linked with a move to bring in a new right-back. Denzel Dumfries’ name often pops up in those talks.

The Dutchman, who Ten Hag will know well from his time in the Eredivisie and following the Netherlands national team, currently plies his trade for AC Milan.

Yet again, United are being linked with a move to bring him in. This time around, it’s Football Insider with the scoop.

They say that United ‘could return’ for their ‘long-term target’ this coming summer. The Reds considered a move for Dumfries in January, though couldn’t raise the funds to get a deal done.

It’s stated that Ten Hag remains a ‘huge fan’ of the player, ahead of the summer transfer window. Chelsea are also credited with an interest in the 26-year-old.

In terms of cost, somewhere between £40-50m is thought to be enough to get the deal done, with Inter looking to balance the books somewhat.

Dumfries is a player who is either great or terrible. There’s often no in between with him. From a personal viewpoint, I’m not really sure that’s what United need right now. Rather, they need someone who can put in solid displays every single week.
