Rumours suggesting Paul Pogba could depart Manchester United have resurfaced again.
Manchester United Football Club have themselves a Paul Pogba problem. The Old Trafford club are going to have to put up with this rumour until one of two things happen; either Pogba eventually leaves or he signs a new contract.
To me, bridges were burned for good when his agent, Mino Raiola, decided to chirp up again. Pogba deserves credit for his form since then, though, he has been brilliant. I still reckon he’ll be on his way out in the not too distant future, mind.
The latest update in the Pogba saga comes from Tuttosport (Italian). They state that the world-class 28-year-old could indeed leave United this summer, with Juventus keen on bringing the Frenchman back to Turin.
What’s interesting is that there are claims Pogba could be used in a high-profile swap deal involving Paulo Dybala. We’ve been here before, too. United’s interest in the Argentine is definitely genuine, with a deal coming somewhat close to happening last summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer likes Dybala. However, his incredible wage demands always felt like a problem in the middle of a pandemic.
Well, if Pogba could be moved off the books in order to free up wage space for Dybala, that could solve that issue (for both clubs). However, Dybala has been pretty inconsistent this season. He only has three goals in all competitions, whereas United are desperate for a forward who can guarantee 20+ year-in-year-out.
That’s not to say Dybala isn’t supremely talented. He is. I’m just not sure he’s the right fit for this current United side at this point in time. It does seem likely that Pogba will leave, though, so the Old Trafford club will have to replace him somehow…
