Man United could target Ismaila Sarr in transfer market: report

Man United are seemingly still keen on Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.

We’ve been here before. Manchester United have been linked with a move to sign Ismaila Sarr in the past and those rumours aren’t going away.

This time around, the story comes from The Express, who state that United could target the 23-year-old winger as a cheaper alternative to Jadon Sancho.

Apparently, the Red Devils will move for Sarr – but only if they can agree on a deal for Erling Haaland, as they wouldn’t be able to afford both he and Sancho in the same window, hence why United are looking at a cheaper alternative.

Obviously, money is still tight for all clubs given the global pandemic that’s still going on. That makes it much harder to go out there and spend in excess of £200million on two players, while Dortmund themselves probably wouldn’t want to sell their two prized assets in the same transfer window.

In terms of Sarr, he’s had his moments. I vaguely remember him single-handedly destroying Liverpool a couple of seasons ago, though he only has nine goals in the Championship this term. I’m pretty sure United would expect a better output from a regular starter.

Last time United were linked with Sarr, the deal was rumoured to cost the Old Trafford club £40million. Honestly, that seems like a lot for the Senegal man and I get the feeling from most people that the sort of money involved could certainly be spent on a better player.

That’s not to knock Sarr, who is a talented young man, I just think United should be aiming a little higher as the difference in quality between him and Sancho is pretty sizeable.

Would a Man United move for Sarr make sense? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.
