Man united are seemingly keeping an eye on Milan goalkeeper, Mike Maignan.

There can be no doubt that Manchester United will soon be in the market for a new goalkeeper in the not-too-distant future.

The Old Trafford club are reliant on David de Gea right now, though the Spaniard feels like someone who isn’t the perfect fit for this possession-based Erik ten Hag style.

Several goalies were linked over the summer, including the likes of Kevin Trapp, as Dean Henderson left on loan.

Although Trapp was likely viewed as a back-up, the need to bring in a new number one is on the horizon. Enter, Mike Maignan.

It’s Calciostyle with the claim. Thanks to the MEN Live Blog for the translation. According to the report, United now ‘enter (the) race’ to sign the 27-year-old goalkeeper.

Maignan currently plies his trade for AC Milan in the Serie A, having started his career with PSG Back in his homeland of France.

It’s stated that the player’s agent is working on a move to the Premier League, with Maignan very interested in coming to England.

At this point in time, both United and Tottenham Hotspur are credited with an interest in Maignan, with Spurs looking to find their eventual replacement for Hugo Lloris.

OTF’s verdict

First and foremost, it all comes down to what the Red Devils want to do with Dean Henderson. If the Englishman is given a chance, I’d imagine he’ll be first choice.

However, if Ten Hag deems Hendo not good enough, then someone like Maignan feels like a good fit. Personally, I like Diogo Costa more. He’s currently the standout option in between the sticks for us, but let’s see what happens…
