Man United have 4 defensive injury doubts ahead of Saturday’s Community Shield against Manchester City.
Manchester United Football Club are gearing up for the 2024/25 campaign, though the injuries do not seem to be easing up.
Erik ten Hag must be cursing his luck at this point, with the Red Devils squad once again filled with gaping holes due to treatment table woes. Leny Yoro is out for three months. Rasmus Hojlund is done for six weeks.
Now, ahead of the Community Shield, United are sweating on the fitness of 4 more first-teamers, all of whom are defenders.
Erik ten Hag confirmed that all of Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Luke Shaw are doubts for the game against Manchester City on Saturday.

“Harry Maguire missed the game as a precaution, he is a question mark for Saturday,” Ten Hag told ManUtd.com. “So we have training and we will have to see whether he is fit enough or not to be available.”
“Victor played, but he is also a question mark and so is Azza [Aaron Wan-Bissaka]. Luke Shaw too. We have to see about [them] tomorrow.”
It doesn’t help that all these injury problems are defenders. Suddenly, the only fit centre-halves United have are Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans. The former only has a few training sessions in the legs which obviously isn’t ideal.
At left-back, it could genuinely be Harry Amass’ time to shine this weekend. He’s the only fit left-sided defender, while Diogo Dalot is the only fit right-back due to Wan-Bissaka’s fresh problem.
Honestly, I’m wondering whether this is more than just bad luck at this point. This injury crisis has been a constant problem for at least twelve months now. Either the players are being worked too hard or this squad is filled with footballers who are just injury prone. Either way, something has to change as it just doesn’t help matters when you’re trying so desperately to win major trophies.
