Manchester United’s biggest game of the season is always Liverpool. It’s the first fixture I look for, and the two Premier League powerhouses will meet for the first time of the season this coming Sunday.
Ahead of the game, Jose Mourinho’s injury list is growing. According to the Manchester Evening News, Scott McTominay has picked up a training ground injury and missed the game against Valencia CF; a game he was meant to start, with young Mason Greenwood replacing him on the substitutes bench.
It goes without saying that the young midfielder was probably unlikely to start at Anfield, but it gives the manager one less option as a substitute. So often in these tight-knit games, Mourinho turns to a Fellaini or McTominay to shore things up.
Hopefully, it’s nothing too serious and he’ll be back involved in the not too distant future, but right now, the injury list has to be a problem and it couldn’t have come at a worse time.
We’re unsure as to exactly what the issue is at this point, but no doubt we’ll hear more from the manager in the build-up to the clash on Merseyside.
