Man United dealt blow as James Maddison to snub move away: report

Back on June 4th, Manchester United were (finally) linked with a move for Leicester City’s James Maddison. We covered a story from the Daily Record which claimed that £60million should be enough to get the deal done and the Reds had made contact with Leicester City.

Today, though, United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the top-class 22-year-old, as in an exclusive from The Sun, Maddison has apparently told The Foxes he wants to stay at the King Power this summer – despite interest from United and others…

The report says that Maddison is ‘relaxed’ about his future and he could actually be persuaded to sign a new deal with Leicester, rejecting interest from some top Premier League sides as he enjoys working under Brendan Rodgers.

Maddison has only been with the East Midlands outfit for just one year and the attacking midfielder does have four years left on his current deal. It’s nice to see him remaining loyal to the side who gave him a big Premier League break twelve months ago. Although you’d prefer to see him in United colours, loyalty is rare these days and you have to admire that.

Actually, the fact that Maddison isn’t moving clubs this summer may play into United’s hands. The Reds cannot offer Champions League football like many of our rivals can. Who knows, in a year’s time, that may well be different… We hope.
