Man United will be without Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett for their US tour.
Manchester United Football Club have played one pre-season game, with another fixture to come later today.
The Old Trafford side take on Lyon in Edinburgh, with the Red Devils naming another youthful side for this encounter.
Included in the tour squad is Jonny Evans, who has recently signed a short-term deal at the club, as the Reds look to help him get back on his way following injury.
However, a pair will not be involved. United have confirmed a double injury blow, with the duo of Tyrell Malacia and Rhys Bennett out of the US tour with their respective injury issues.
The severity of the injuries have not been disclosed by the club, though they must be at least semi-serious, if they’re now ruled out for the next couple of weeks at the very least.
Malacia’s position is interesting. He started last season as the first-choice left-back, though was quickly displaced by Luke Shaw. The Dutchman still played his fair share of minutes when all was said and done.
However, Alvaro Fernandez looked sharp in the opening friendly game of the summer, which comes after winning the Reserve Player of the Year award at United. This boy is super talented and his loan at Preston North End displayed that. I wonder if he can overtake Malacia in the pecking order.
For Bennett, I’m just gutted. This is a local lad who loves this club. This was meant to be his chance to impress the gaffer. That has now cruelly been taken away from him through no fault of his own. I’d like to think that he’ll get his chances down the line, as this young man can play.
Get well soon, lads!
