Man United’s injury issues are seemingly continuing into the 2024/25 season…
Manchester United continued their pre-season tour with a 2-1 defeat against Arsenal at the SoFi Stadium overnight, with the Red Devils redeeming themselves somewhat via a penalty shootout victory.
The game itself was a closely fought encounter, with a blatantly offside goal awarded to Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus. Rasmus Hojlund gave United the lead before Gabriel Martinelli won it late on.
It’s more about fitness levels at this stage of the season, though once again, the game was marred by injuries for the Red Devils.
Goalscorer Hojlund, and new summer signing Leny Yoro both had to depart with injury issues, leaving Erik ten Hag with a couple of problems. At full-time, he wasn’t sure about the severity of either.
This is why I hate the lads playing on astroturf rather than pure grass pitches. It’s far easier to get your leg stuck in the ground and that’s exactly what happened.
For Hojlund, it looked like a hamstring problem. His injury seemed far less serious, with the substitution looking like a precaution more than a longer-term injury.
As for Yoro, there were whispers on MUTV that he sprained his ankle. This would be a far bigger worry for the management team. If true, his pre-season is probably over, while I’d also assume he would not be fit in time for the season opener in a few weeks’ time. Hopefully, that isn’t the case.
For now, it’s just a waiting game. Shout out to Arsenal for flying into tackles needlessly, too, as some of their recklessness could have seriously hurt other players during a *friendly* match…
Now, we wait for a further update at some point today. Get well soon, lads.
