Man United dealt Harry Maguire injury blow as defender leaves England camp with problem

Harry Maguire has left England international duty after picking up a problem, leaving Man United concerned about his fitness.

Manchester United’s season has been derailed by injuries this season. Erik ten Hag has been keen to not use it as an excuse, but I absolutely will. No side in the Premier League has suffered the sheer volume of issues the Reds have.

The international break was supposed to be a period to allow some players to build up their fitness ahead of their possible returns. Lisandro Martinez and Mason Mount will certainly view it that way. However, the Old Trafford side have been dealt another blow.

Harry Maguire had to be substituted off against Brazil with an issue. Now, The Sun believe United are sweating on the fitness of the star, who has since left international early due to the issue.

Maguire has already undergone a scan on the affected area, leaving United concerned as they approach their pivotal end of season run-in.

The centre-back has endured a stop-start season at club level due to various problems, so you’re obviously praying that this latest issue isn’t anything longer-term.

As things stand, Maguire is likely to be third choice centre-back behind both Licha and Raphael Varane, though both have had their own treatment table woes so the England international is likely to receive plenty of minutes if he’s fit enough to play.

In the longer term, both United and Maguire have a decision to make. The Reds could potentially move on from the ex-Leicester City man this summer, but much like last time around, the ball is in the player’s court and he’s well within his rights to turn down any prospective moves. I’d honestly be content with either decision.

For now, let’s hope Maguire is fit enough to play this weekend.
