Manchester United Football Club have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Real Madrid midfielder, Mateo Kovacic.
That’s according to Spanish media outlet Marca, who says that the midfielder sees a switch to Old Trafford as a bad fit stylistically.
Marca say that United did indeed make a £60million offer to sign the man from Croatia, but the deal obviously didn’t come to fruition.
Kovacic is still intent on departing from the Santiago Bernabeu during this window, but he will take part in Madrid’s pre-season in the coming days.
You can’t really argue with Kovacic wanting to leave. Madrid are super-stacked in that area of the field and his opportunities will continue to be limited. He’s at that stage in his career where he needs regular football. Perhaps rejecting United isn’t the worst idea from his career standpoint.
Would he be able to break into our starting line-up? He’s built in a similar style to Fred, but probably not as talented. Paul Pogba will always start over Kovacic, as will Nemanja Matic. Perhaps he should take a step down rather than trying to remain at an elite European club, then maybe try and build back up that way.
