Man United defender wants to stay despite falling down pecking order: report

Antonio Valencia has seen a drastic reduction in minutes this term, with the man from Ecuador falling out of favour under both Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

That isn’t dampening his attitude, however. According to a report from The Times, Valencia has told United that he wants to stay and see out his contract at Old Trafford – which expires this summer.

The Ecuadorian has fallen down the pecking order this term, losing out to both Ashley Young, Diogo Dalot and even Matteo Darmian at times.

Recently, it just looks as though Valencia has lost his biggest asset; pace and his brilliant engine. He is now 33, though, and it’s understandable that he’s starting to slow down. That’s just natural.

I think it’s only fair that Valencia gets to see out his contract at Old Trafford. He has been a super servant to this club over the last decade, and he’s certainly lined his trophy cabinet pretty nicely too.

With that said, in the long-term I do feel like it’s time to move on in a different direction. Perhaps Dalot should be given a real run in the team to show us what he can do, it’s the least he deserves.
