Manchester United have been pretty hit and miss over the last six or seven years, but credit where it’s due, the Red Devils have been handy when it comes to choosing their goalkeepers.
David de Gea has been amongst the best in the business for quite some time, while in Sergio Romero, United have probably the best back-up in world football.
This season, Dean Henderson has truly emerged. After an impressive loan season with Sheffield United in the Championship last term, the shot-stopper would return for another season with The Blades – but this time in the Premier League.
It’s fair to say his reputation has continued to grow, with Henderson being amongst the best goalkeepers in the country this term. With that, interest in the rising star has grown, despite the fact he only signed a new three-year contract at United just last summer.
Well, according to the Sun on Sunday, the Reds are locked in a ‘massive signing war’ with Chelsea, with United desperate to keep the 23-year-old at the club…
The article claims that United find themselves with a ‘huge problem’ because Frank Lampard has cash backing to ‘stage a serious bid’ for Henderson. In terms of a fee, the Stamford Bridge outfit could possibly offer up to £50million to acquire the Red Devils’ up-and-comer.
For me, I’d love to see Henderson given an opportunity at Old Trafford. I love De Gea as much as the next United fan, though he’s made some glaring errors over the last twelve months and maybe it’s time for a change.
Henderson has shown all the attributes of a top-class goalkeeper and he’s determined to make an impact at the Theatre of Dreams. Why not cash in on De Gea and give the young Englishman the platform and backing that he needs? The timing certainly feels right…
