Alejandro Garnacho will not be heading to the U20 World Cup with Argentina, with Man United rejecting his request.
Manchester United have been coping without the services of Alejandro Garnacho for a couple of months now. His absence has certainly been falt.
Be it his youthful exuberance or sheer talent, Garnacho has definitely left his mark on the Old Trafford faithful since breaking into the first-team fold.
His decision-making has sometimes come into question. As has his attitude. Cast your mind back to pre-season tour when he wasn’t as punctual as required at the highest level. He was rightly punished for that.
Over the last week or so, Garnacho has been back in the headlines again. He’s seemingly desperate to represent Argentina at the U20 World Cup. However, in doing so, he’d miss out on the FA Cup final.
From a United standpoint, I was super disappointed to hear that his choice would be to play for Argentina’s U20s over a showpiece derby at Wembley. The final decision would be up to United, though.
Well, according to Gaston Edul, who has been following this story closely, United have rejected the young star’s request to feature at the U20 World Cup. Instead, he’ll remain at Old Trafford.
There is no word yet on how Garnacho is taking the news, though I’d imagine he’s feeling pretty disappointed. I’d hope that he can understand why Ten Hag and the coaching staff have made this choice. Heck, it was Garnacho who made the difference in the last derby. We could absolutely use him on June 3rd, too…
United are the club that pay his wages. That said, we have to respect his request, just as he has to respect the decision made by the powers that be.
For now, Garnacho is still focusing on working his way back from injury. His return to the fold will be vital for the Red Devils going into this huge end-of-season run-in.
