Man United could yet make their move for Denis Zakaria this month.
Here at Old Trafford Faithful, it always felt like a long shot that Manchester United would make any transfer moves in January. After all, Ralf Rangnick is likely going to be in charge for just six months. Why give him money to spend when the new, permanent coach may have different ideas?
Well, it does seem as though the Old Trafford club are exploring multiple options on the transfer front, as the 20-time Premier League champions look to start pushing up the league table.
The latest rumour comes from Sport1’s Patrick Berger, who links the Reds with a move for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, Denis Zakaria.
Apparently, United are ‘definitely interested’ in the defensive midfielder who is currently plying his trade in the Bundesliga. The Old Trafford club are ‘discussing’ the possibility of a January transfer for the 25-year-old.
On top of that, Zakaria wouldn’t cost me. In fact, he’d go for as little as €6-7m. That’s an absolute bargain for a player of his calibre.
Zakaria’s ability is made clear purely based on the other sides who are interested. Borussia Dortmund, Juventus and Liverpool are all keen.
The Swiss international is only so cheap due to a winding down contract. As things stand, Gladbach are set to lose one of their key assets for absolutely nothing in the summer. Hence why they’re willing to cash in on a cut-price deal for Zakaria this month.
This presents an excellent opportunity for United to get a jumpstart on their competition – while giving Zakaria an extra six months to settle into life at Old Trafford ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.
He also plays in a genuine position of need for the Old Trafford club. This is a player who’d vastly improve us in that defensive-midfield area of the pitch. What’s not to like about this potential signing?
