Man United drawn against Man City in Carabao Cup semi-final

Ten years ago to the season, Manchester United went toe-to-toe with Manchester City in a two-legged League Cup semi-final. This was the start of a rivalry that would only intensify due to new-found wealth over at the Etihad.

Now, a decade on, the two sides meet again in a Carabao Cup semi-final. This time, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer goes head-to-head with Pep Guardiola, with a place in the Wembley showpiece at stake once again.

The draw took place last night with United facing off against their old foe just after the turn of the year. The first leg will be played at Old Trafford, week commencing January 6th, with the return fixture at Eastlands to be played week commencing January 27th.

After United beat their fierce rivals just under a couple of weeks ago, Solskjaer’s squad have every reason to go into this one with confidence. This isn’t the same City side we saw last term while United actually have an excellent record against top-six opposition.

With a real opportunity to win a major piece of silverware at stake, I fully expect to see United field a strong side and go all-out for the victory.

If the Red Devils were to make it to the Wembley final, either Leicester City or Aston Villa awaits…
