Man United drawn away to Northampton or Derby County in FA Cup fifth round

Manchester United earned their place in the FA Cup fifth round with a convincing 6-0 victory over Tranmere Rovers over the weekend.

Tonight, the Red Devils learned their opponent for the next round, confirmed via the official @ManUtd Twitter account. United will head away to either Northampton Town or Derby County, with the tie taking place in early March, though the exact date hasn’t been confirmed as of yet.

For different reasons, these are both intriguing ties. United should have no problems getting by Northampton Town if they go full strength, while a trip to Derby would mean a meeting with a certain Wayne Rooney – who is back in England after his brief stint in the MLS.

Realistically, the FA Cup is looking like United’s best chance at silverware this season and right now, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a great chance to book our place in the last eight.

Sure, whoever we come up against certainly are going to be no pushovers, but you’d fancy our chances despite the fact that United will play this one away from home.

Hopefully, by this point, we’ll also have some players back from injury. I’m positive that we could well have Scott McTominay and possibly Paul Pogba available for selection. I’d hope that Marcus Rashford is back fit, though right now, that feels like a bit of a long shot.

Either way, although United desperately need new signings, you’d hope that we have more than enough quality to overcome our foe and make our way into the last eight.

For me, a match-up against Rooney would be super-fun. He is an absolute United legend and it’s always good to see players with such a rich history again. No doubt Wazza would get a huge reception from the travelling supporters – and rightly so, too…
