Manchester United have been electric over the last few months, finishing third in the Premier League table. It’s nice to see our players credited with some praise for a change. Now, two rising United stars have been named in WhoScored’s U21 Team of the Season.
Finishing as strongly as we did this term has set us up nicely for a real run in the Europa League, and possibly a shot at the title next season provided the right signings are made.
For now, though, it’s about reflecting on the good work done by our players. It’s easy to forget that this is a young squad. In fact, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s starting XIs averaged out to be the youngest in the division at 24.7. Two of those stars have been included in this team here…
The first one is pretty obvious, while the second was somewhat a surprise. A strong case can be made to suggest that Mason Greenwood should have walked into this team, though his numbers means he just didn’t quite make it using WhoScored’s metrics.
Check out WhoScored’s U21 Team of the Season in full:
First up we have Marcus Rashford, who scored 7.35; the highest in the team. He scored goals aplenty, picked up loads of assists and his all-round game has come on leaps and bounds. We’re now seeing the makings of a supremely talented young man.
As you can see, the second Red Devil to make the cut is Brandon Williams. The budding left-back scored a 6.71, sneaking into the side and deservedly so. He’ll only get better as first-team football continues to come his way. I really like how cool and calm he is with the ball at his feet.
Now it’s about kicking it up a notch and going again next season. Hopefully, these guys can do that, and here’s to hoping we have a successful Europa League campaign before then too!
Well deserved, lads!
