Man United enquire about Lemina, yet to meet Southampton’s valuation: report

In a story that pretty much was a shock to us all, Manchester United had apparently enquired about Southampton midfielder, Mario Lemina. We covered that claim from the Daily Mail here.

The Red Devils’ interest in Lemina has now been backed up by the Press Association’s Simon Peach, who took to Twitter earlier today to provide further information.

Peach also adds that an enquiry has been made for a player who Southampton are ready to cash in on after ‘two stop-start years’ on the South Coast. However, United are amongst a few teams who have not yet met the Saints’ valuation of the 25-year-old midfielder.

Arsenal and Leicester City are the other two teams who are keen on signing Lemina this summer, who cost Southampton £18million from Juventus just a couple of summers ago.

Lemina is a decent talent but I’m not sure he’s anything more than that. Do I think he could be a United regular in a title-winning team? Probably not. Would he be a good squad player? Almost certainly.

It’s easy to forget that United lost both Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini over the last six months. Neither have been replaced and our midfield is looking extremely thin on the ground – but also lacking in quality.

In an ideal world, the Reds would sign three midfielders, with Lemina being the third-best of the three. With time rapidly running out, I have my doubts about whether Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be given even two central players during this window.
