Man United have eyes on ex-Arsenal striker, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Erik ten Hag still has a serious Cristiano Ronaldo problem to contend with. Publically, the Dutchman has fully backed United’s star striker. Privately, though, the Portugal international still wants to leave. Being benched for the Reds’ last two games wouldn’t have helped his mood, either.
It makes sense for the Old Trafford club to continue the hunt for a potential Ronaldo replacement. After all, there’s every chance the GOAT does leave before the close of play on Thursday.
Enter, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The man from Gabon currently plies his trade for FC Barcelona, following his Arsenal exit. However, a Premier League return could be on the cards, if CaughtOffside and Fabrizio Romano are correct.
Apparently, United have made an enquiry about moving for the 33-year-old striker this summer, who has an uncertain future at the Camp Nou.
The bad news is that the player prefers a move elsewhere, with big-spending Chelsea also pushing hard to bring in Aubameyang during this window.
Despite the fact that the Red Devils ‘have asked’ about Aubameyang, the man from Gabon still has personal terms in place with Chelsea, while he prefers a move to Stamford Bridge.
Champions League football is a big factor behind Aubameyang’s decision. Chelsea can offer him that. United cannot.
With that in mind, I’d firmly have United as the outsiders in this move. Unless Aubameyang’s proposed switch to Chelsea collapses, I don’t see any way how the Old Trafford club win this race.
I also worry about Aubameyang’s personality. This is a man who isn’t afraid to down tools if things are not going his way. I’m not so sure United need any more of that within that dressing room at this moment in time…
