Man United enquire about signing 23-year-old centre-half: report

Manchester United’s squad is in a mess. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer now realises he has a huge task on his hands, but there are some world-class players for him to build around.

Perhaps the Norwegian’s biggest need is a new centre-half. We’re only in mid-April and a whole host of defenders have already been linked with a move to Old Trafford. Now, another name has been thrown into the mix; Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule.

According to Sport1, United have enquired about the 23-year-old’s availability, but immediately, I have my doubts about this rumour.

There’s no doubting Sule’s ability and I’m sure the Red Devils’ interest is genuine. My concerns come from Bayern Munich’s end. They have two veterans in Mats Hummels and Jerome Boateng who are past their best and slowly coming towards the end of their careers. In Sule, they have a ready-made replacement who can come in and start straight away. Why would they let that go?

For United, it’s good to see them aiming high and trying to bring in the best of the best, but in Sule I think they’re chasing their own shadow. It looks like an impossible dream already and it may be easier to start focusing on more realistic targets. I still think Toby Alderweireld is the man to go for. He has Premier League experience, too, which is a huge plus.
