Manchester United’s summer transfer window simply has to be a successful one. This club has been in a downward spiral over the last few years. It all came to a head in the 2018/19 campaign.

Ole Gunar Solskjaer has been tasked with the rebuilding job that’ll likely take more than one summer, but he has to start somewhere, right? Well, it seems as though he and Edward Woodward have gotten off to a sluggish start…

According to the Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils made an enquiry about the possibility of signing winger Julian Brandt last week – only to discover that the German had already chosen to sign for Borussia Dortmund.

The 23-year-old Brandt enjoyed a brilliant season with Bayer Leverkusen, as their knack at developing wingers continues – with Brandt following in Heung Min-Son’s footsteps.

There’s no doubt that Brandt would have been an astute signing, particularly with his signature costing just £22million, but that ship has sailed and United simply have to move on.

Whether or not United were just slow on the uptake or Brandt had his heart set on a Dortmund move we’ll never know, but the transfer market is competitive as ever and Woodward simply has to act quicker to push deals over the line before other club’s swoop in.
