Man United have joined in the race to sign Real Sociedad midfielder, Martin Zubimendi.
Manchester United Football Club are heading in the right direction under Erik ten Hag, with the Old Trafford side playing some good stuff right now.
The squad is continuing to be overhauled by the Dutch manager, who is also proving his worth when it comes to improving the current players at his disposal.
Ten Hag will not be completely happy until that dressing room is made up of players he’s fully content with. It’s why the next few transfer windows are so important
The rumours are starting to ramp up, with the latest claim suggesting that United could move to sign Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
It’s AS (Friday print edition) with the claim, thanks to Sport Witness for the information and translation. They say that United are a ‘new entrant’ in the race to sign the 23-year-old midfielder.
The full Spain international only signed a new contract a couple of months ago, with that dealing running until 2027. Fortunately, for United or any other buying club – there’s a release clause worth around €60m (£52m) inserted into that contract. Apparently, the Reds are ‘willing to pay’ said release clause.
Ten Hag’s main reason for interest in Zubimendi is due to the fact that he’s a good fit to partner Casemiro at the heart of this new-look United midfield.
AS state that as of yet, Sociedad haven’t received any firm calls from United over the signing of Zubimendi – though everything could happen quickly due to that release clause.
OTF’s verdict
Zubimendi isn’t a player I know an awful lot about, though you have to trust Ten Hag’s intuition given the brilliant work he’s done in the transfer market so far.
Perhaps this is a move in the long-term, with the club hoping to replace Christian Eriksen and the aforementioned Casemiro in a couple of years.
