Man United and FC Barcelona both believe a deal for the Reds to sign Frenkie de Jong will be done before Thursday.
We’ve now been covering the Frenkie de Jong to Manchester United rumours for the better part of a month. Almost daily updates have been provided from various media outlets, with the Old Trafford club not giving up in pursuit of their man.
Credit must go to the Old Trafford club. As not too long ago, this deal looked completely dead in the water in our opinion. De Jong himself admitted he’d have preferred to stay at the Camp Nou, though seemingly, he’s had a change of heart.
Well, there’s now better news from The Times, who believe that United and Barca both ‘expect’ a deal for the Reds to sign the top star will be completed before Thursday.
Apparently, Thursday is the end of the accounting period for Spanish clubs and Barcelona are keen on bolstering their finances in that regard.
The report claims that failing disaster, Erik ten Hag wants this signing done by the ‘end of the week’ at the very latest. Presumably, as we’re now close to the squad jetting off for pre-season tour.
Barcelona actually wanted £73million to sell De Jong, though it looks as though a compromise has been reached, with the deal likely to cost United somewhere around £69million. United had a £56million offer rejected last week, though the Old Trafford club are ‘prepared’ to raise that offer.
This just seems like an expensive game of cat and mouse. Both clubs are trying to work towards a deal that best suits them, though it does feel like a deal is now more likely than ever.
De Jong would be a top-class addition if the Old Trafford club could somehow pull this off.
