Manchester United fans are buzzing with the news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been named permanent manager; and rightly so.
Now, Red Devils fans could be gifted with more good news. According to the Manchester Evening News, United ‘expect’ that Mike Phelan will stay on as the Baby Faced Assasin’s assistant manager following the news that Solskjaer is here for good.
Phelan is a key staff member and you simply cannot understate his importance. He has more than a decade of experience at United and the impact he has inside that dressing room is only a positive one.
Bringing him back when Solskjaer was given the job on an interim basis was nothing short of a masterstroke by the Red Devils decision-makers, and the fact that it’s now looking like he’s here to stay is huge.
Behind every top coach is a world-class coaching staff that are just as important. Solskjaer will be the first to tell you that Phelan, Michael Carrick and Kieran McKenna have all played vital roles and long may that continue.
Hopefully, it’s not just Phelan joining Solskjaer and the rest of the staff get the opportunity to remain at the Theatre of Dreams in the long-term.
